QC - 2013

And so the luminous one went back to the fabled old city that, once upon a blue moon, held all the prestige in ''le Haut-Canada'' - or was it in ''le Bas-Canada'' truly? Aye; it all has gone towards ''le Bas'' indeed... all the way down-down-down-down-DOWN, as Rita-Rita used to sing it so, ah, poorly actually!  And so he returned to that old township; he returned to it and he found nothing more than a city in ruins!  Not ''old world'' nor ''ancient civilization'' type of ruins, mind you; not worthy ruins, hence - just plain old ruins! And it became evident to all why they called it ''La Vieille Capitale'' now...  Just look at it:

Everything old is.. still old in this ''old capital''...!
Restoration required - oftentimes urgently!

Even the UNESCO has to intervene here in order to try and help
prevent it from all falling apart to little pieces...!
Best of luck with that endeavor, Mr and Mrs Unesco...!

Profane so-called artwork co-habitates with genuine
(if only truly imitative of actual great works of) art -
giving the ensemble an air of... vulgar anarchy, if you ask me!

All roads lead to Rome;
however, here, in Quebec City, a great many staircases and shortcuts
lead absolutely nowhere!

Lest it leads to a crossroads in the fabric of time itself?
Which would still be something akin to ''nowhere'' indeed!

In short...
You'd have to be a little Mʻşwgʼas to like it there...

Vive La Ville Lumière - Libre!

I am sure the good general would appreciate my little twists on his most famous utterance ever - outside of his beloved France, that is. I felt the same exact exuberance when I travelled abroad too - going the opposite way he did, too!  I hope they won't make an odd statue of me as they did of him, either! But that is another story...

Here is the promised second batch of pics made during this latest European Tour - that wasn't!  (It was limited to Paris - not much ''touring'' done, in that case, hmm?)

Once again - all photos copyright Luciano Pimèntel - all rights reserved and all the fun was mine, too!
Enjoy!  :-)

Vive Paris... Libre!

Shots taken in the so-called Ville Lumière (because of les frères Lumière, is that it? After all, even Maurice Chevalier himself admitted in his classic ''Paris sera toujours Paris'' that it plunges  ''dans le noir'' and is called so ''malgré l'obscurité profonde'' that permeates the whole place...  But that is another story.)

Pictures taken with the trustworthy Lumix again - the next wave (over 1000 shots) was taken with my Samsung phone...!  That will be for some other time...

Onwards with this investigation into Les Mystères de Paris...!

Timing Is Everything

Ah, to be there at the right time (and in the right disposition too!) in order to be able to snap that one-in-a-million shot that you always wanted to make... such is the dream of all photographers out there!

As with so many other things in life, many are called, but few are ever given those kinds of opportunities - so, this here today, is our luminous salute to all the lucky photographers that got it done in that infinitesimal fraction-of-a-second magical snippet of time - that is often simply called ''the nick of time'' by those very lucky bastards themselves!

Kudos to your cameras' focus lenses, most of all...

Lord Knows *I* keep trying to snap them, too...

Luminous Louis

Courtesy of the Library of Congress

Louis Daguerre pioneered photography - and his first experiment came to fruition (approximatively) on this date, lo, 175 years ago! (In 1838 to be exact - not 1839 as noted on the graphic above!)

It was only fair that the first snapshots bore his name, for a while: they were called daguerreotypes and they marked history as the first visual transcription of places and faces that truly spread out into wide usage - given that one could afford it, of course, as they were the first commercially successful photographic process! (Daguerre-o-types, really: avoid ''daguerreo'' turns there - these are not Oreos, for crying out loud!)

Here's to you, Luminous Louis - a true trendsetter and avant-gardiste if there ever was one worthy of those attributions...!
